Thanks for visiting!

At Poppets Pre-School we provide a fun, caring and welcoming atmosphere where all children are encouraged to achieve to their full potential, through nurturing, loving and friendly relationships and a stimulating environment. We believe that every child deserves to feel loved and valued and we support them in developing their own unique character.

Our setting has excellent links with all the local schools and we work closely with our Local Authority Early Years Inclusion and Improvement Advisers.

Poppets Pre-School is owned by Poppets Childcare Ltd., with Laura Phillips as the Director. Laura has a Foundation Degree in Early Years and all staff are experienced in childcare. A large number of staff also hold childcare qualifications at Level 3 or above. All staff have enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks and are qualified in paediatric first aid. They are also trained in child protection and food hygiene. Further training for staff is performed on a regular basis.

The setting caters for children aged between 2 to 4 years old and offers 29 places. We have a staffing ratio of 1:4 for children aged 2 years and 1:8 for children aged 3 years and over.

We have a lot of experience of working with children with special and additional needs. We have cared for children with Downs Syndrome, Autism, Aspergers, speech + language difficulties, physical disabilities and complex health needs. Staff have attended numerous specialised training courses and work closely with other professionals. In September 2018 we became one of the borough's Inclusion Hubs, receiving specialist training in a range of disabilities and therapies.

At Poppets we feel passionately about supporting children with additional needs. We want all children to have the best possible start in their pre-school years and we do all we can to enable and encourage each child. Our staff have a wide range of knowledge and experience of a variety of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including autism, speech delay, ADHD, Down’s Syndrome and global developmental delay. A number of the staff team have children of their own with SEND so they have first-hand experience of what life with a child with additional needs is like. We work closely with parents and professionals from a range of backgrounds (Speech and Language Therapists, Portage, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists) to offer the best possible support we can to each child.

In November 2021 we opened ‘Sunbeams’, our small group provision that offers further support to children with additional needs. Sunbeams accommodates up to eight children and has a high staff : child ratio. In Sunbeams we carry out small group sessions that focus on children’s speech and social communication skills. The sessions are play-based and fun and have been carefully planned following a wide range of Early Years advice and literature.

If you have any further questions regarding Sunbeams or how we support children with SEND please do not hesitate in contacting us.

We feel extremely blessed to be part of so many young children's early start in education and thank everyone who has attended Poppets Pre-School. We are also looking forward to meeting and supporting new children and their parents in the future.
